Does your board of directors drive you forward… or hold you back?

A good board of directors is more than just a group of people sitting around a table. It’s an engine. A strategic space. A lever for credibility, impact and stability.

And no, it’s not an unattainable ideal reserved for large organizations. A high-performance board of directors is possible. Better still, it’s essential.

What does a high-performance board of directors look like?

In an effective board, every member knows why he or she is there – and what he or she brings to the table.
Meetings are structured, yet lively. Discussions are frank, respectful and forward-looking.
The chair of the board plays an active role in guiding meetings, while fostering harmonious collaboration with senior management.
Committees don’t sit idle between meetings: they move forward, consult, and make proposals.
And above all, the Board acts as a true strategic partner to senior management.

A high-performance board doesn’t simply validate decisions. It enhances them.

Conversely, when the board slows things down…

…you can feel it right away.
Discussions go in circles, important decisions are postponed, management spends more time “managing” members than steering the organization.

It’s never one person in particular who causes the problem. It’s a collection of small misalignments: unclear roles, lack of renewal, fragile group dynamics, absent diversity, inactive committees…

And even though we know it, it’s sometimes difficult to say out loud what we see down below.

Taking stock, calmly and honestly

That’s why I’ve designed a self-assessment tool.
Not to judge. Not to accuse.
But to see clearly, to structure your thinking, and above all, to help your board of directors move forward.

This tool allows you to :

  • Identify what your board already does well (and it’s important to recognize it!)
  • Identify areas to be monitored or improved
  • Prioritize the actions you need to take, without spreading yourself too thinly

It is designed to be used in tandem (chairman + senior management), in a governance committee or even individually to compare points of view. The aim? To arrive at a common, shared and inspiring reading.

It’s not a question of perfection

All boards have their strengths… and their blind spots.
The real challenge is not to be irreproachable, but to be aware of this and to be proactive.
To be able to say: “This is what works. Here’s what we need to adjust. And here’s how we’re going to do it.”

Because a good board of directors changes everything

A good board of administrators:

  • breathes new life into management,
  • reassures backers,
  • attracts the right people,
  • amplifies the organization’s impact.

So if you feel your board could do more, do better – we’re here for you.
And you don’t have to start from scratch.
The evaluation tool below is there for that.
